VirtualBox 2.1 available
Installed VirtualBox 2.1 AMD64 for Ubuntu today, and it works wonderfully. It asked for my VMs to be upgraded to the new format, and did not cause any problems. Meanwhile, a slashdot discussion follows how VirtualBox now supports running 64-bit VMs on 32-bit hosts.

Antonio Cangiano gives the The Princeton Companion to Mathematics a strong recommendation. Hmm, I should get it if I can. He also mentions paper quality, I just love paper quality. It gets the best out of typography.
Wikipedia: Banshee
Banshee used to be my favorite Music Player, until Songbird came along. I still like Banshee, but for some reason it is a bit unstable on my machine (Ubuntu 64-bit, 8.10). It maybe that I use Mono compiled from the SVN repos, but for whatever reason it crashes when I update my music library.
Again, I have not yet found enough time to dig deep into it. But Songbird works well for me, atleast for now. I would prefer to go back to Banshee soon, since I love to support Mono based stuff.
I had banshee as my google status message today, until a few people started asking Why Banshee. I decided to check up on Wikipedia, and found it could also mean “woman of the fairy mounds“. Well, it is no longer my IM status.

2004 interview with Theo de Raadt (from The Age)
November 2nd, 2008
“And everyone’s going to find the real reason why people buy a HP box or an IBM box today is pretty much one piece of equipment – the power supply. Why? Because the grey box vendors haven’t discovered that when you make a 1U rackmount machine, you have to put in a power supply that can run 24/7 for four years. And if you can do that, they’ll buy your box. That’s what HP and IBM and Sun do. They just put a power supply in it, with a good fan so it doesn’t break. Otherwise the machines are identical.”
Loved that. Read the whole interview, titled “Staying on the cutting edge“.
